I have tried all I have found but PSE9 continues to crash each & every time I quit it. There also have been many tips posted around the web for fixes for this, usually involving deleting various files in user or application space. Adobe's official take on PSE9 is it is merely "unsupported" on anything newer than OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, but among the various warnings & cautions posted to Apple oriented web sites about upgrading OS X, PSE is frequently mentioned as one of the apps likely to break, & not just v9. I am surprised to hear you say that PSE9 runs fine on El Capitan on your system.

It's their primary change over to their overall software leasing and cloud/internet based computing scheme. However what I disliked about the nowadays Adobe politics is here more PS suite, Illu, Indesign, LR etc. I can't automate the workflow processing here in some pleasing way, which is bad if you have to work and deal with retoushing a bunch of shots from weekend photoshootings and the like. For me personally right now in it's actual stage, AP doesn't work that well for my overall image processing workflow, it's still too buggy and many things are still missing there or just at very early immature stages. But maybe I'm also more used to the way PS and PSE do work here. Beside that all important third party plugins I use and most PS ATN actions and scripts too, work just the way they should even under those PSE versions, something I sadly can't tell about AP (pluggins and macro related etc.) so far.

They work stable on my side and honestly AP crashed in contrast to those by far very often during my tryouts.

Also I only tend to work in expert mode with those.

Well even PSE9 is in the meantime pretty old that one works fine under Mac OSX El Capitan on my side here, though I use the newer actual PSE versions more often here due to newer functionality and together with Elements+ add-ons. I just don't like the way the company does too many things or treats its customers. I hope it is much better now but I have no desire to pay Adobe any more money than I already have for a newer & better version. On the plus side, it did include a few useful things that Affinity still lacks, like the ability to create animated GIF's & provide previews for web exports, but beyond some very basic stuff their interfaces were poorly designed & kludgy, reminiscent of early 1990's apps. It would not run a lot of plugins, could not run PS actions or anything that relied on them, & had limited layering capabilities.

Worse, it relied on 'modes' a little like Affinity Personas but in effect gave users a choice between a dumbed down 'wizard' based interface & a more capable one that placed options & operations all over the menu hierarchy in obscure locations.Īs of version 9, PSE was still incapable of doing much of what the full PS version could do. Not only did it use a windows model that did not play well with other Mac apps, it was even darker & lower contrast than the Affinity one & had no options to customize anything. Just as annoying, their proprietary uninstallers for the older versions would either not run at all on the newer OS version or would not remove a lot of the older files that were no longer needed or usable with the newer OS version.

I don't know what the more recent versions are like but the old ones were not very Mac friendly: they installed tons of support files on the startup drive, including around 2.3 GB of junk in Library/Applications Support, much of it necessary because Adobe used its own proprietary code for many things instead of the API's provided by OS X (which is probably why they broke when I updated the OS). It does run on El Capitan, but it crashes every time I quit it, generating a lengthy crash report, & some of its functions no longer seem to work reliably.

PSE used to be one of the apps I always had installed on my iMac, but I got tired of having to pay for an upgrade for it every few times I upgraded OS X because the older version would not run on the newer version of OS X.
